WIM Additives Improve Acid Recovery
Recovered acid combined with WIM additives is a stronger, faster acting acid. The controlled depolarization feature of the WIM additives gives the acid added pickling power. The returning acid acts as if it were 2% - 5% stronger in concentration. You get better pickling, better scale removal, at a lower cost. Using the energy savings feature of the WIM additives you can pickle colder, this reduces the temperature differential when cooling a sulfuric acid for crystallization and its subsequent reheating when returned to the pickle tank. A typical 17% HCl recovered acid will react with scale as if it were in the 20%+ range.
Sulfuric Acid Recovery
The WPL (waste pickle liquor) is filtered and brought into a three stage recovery module where the acid is gradually cooled causing iron sulfate crystals to form. These crystals are further chilled and passed through each stage of the reactor until they spill into a conical collection tank. The pickle liquor is clarified with the recovered acid being returned to the pickle tank and the crystals fed to a centrifuge where they are spun dry, bagged and sold. The recovered acid is then adjusted to the bath strength with fresh acid before it is returned to the pickle tank
Hydrochloric Acid Recovery - Evaporative Recovery
This is similar to a distillation process where the WPL (Waste Pickle Liquor) is brought into the main reactor and heated to about 100 degrees C. A sequence similar to the roasting process takes place where the HCl is driven off as a gas. We now take the extra step with the ferrous chloride as it reacts with a reagent to complete the recovery of the HCl which was converted to iron chloride. . . This step forms two products; chorine gas and iron salts. The converted salts are collected and dried for off-site refinement into usable forms of iron oxide co-product. The recovered gas from both steps is sent to an adsorption tower where the gasses are cooled reforming HCl and returned to the pickle tank. Recovery up to 95% of the original charge HCl is possible using the process.
